We are thrilled to announce that the Cryo-EM Unit at Ben-Gurion University has been awarded a major infrastructure grant from the Israel Science Foundation (ISF). The grant will fund the acquisition of a 300 kV cryo-electron microscope equipped with a Volta phase plate and a next-generation direct electron detector — a significant upgrade that will substantially expand the unit's resolution and throughput capabilities. The new instrument is expected to arrive and be installed within the next 18 months. It will enable sub-2 Å resolution single-particle analysis for challenging biological specimens, including small proteins below 100 kDa that are currently difficult to image at high resolution. Unit Director Prof. Avi Livnat stated: "This investment reflects the growing national importance of cryo-EM in Israeli science. We look forward to making this capability available to the entire research community." Details on early access programs will be announced as the installation progresses.
